The KCI technologies corporation pays about $600,000 a year for its products and services, but only $300,000 of it goes to the people who use the services, the company’s chief executive, Paul O’Donnell, said in an interview.
This compares with $1.2 million a year paid to other insurers.
He said that in the past, when the company was profitable, it had paid at least $1 million for insurance technology, but since it is now in the red, he said he was reluctant to spend that kind of money again.

It also offers a range of services for businesses, and its insurance technology products are used by companies including BHP Billiton, Australian Government Pension Fund, Australian Federal Government and other state and territory governments.
The KCA has a range, including products for home owners and small businesses.
The chief executive said the company needed to find ways to expand its business.
